The official designation Tanker Jacket was Jacket, Combat, Winter. It was introduced in 1941 as a set consisting of dungarees, a cap and the jacket to equip US tank crews for the winter. The tanker jacket was worn by all soldiers because of its functionality and casual look. Officers in particular were trying to get the tanker jackets as they were warmer, more casual and more practical than what the US Army had to offer in the early 1940s. So it didn’t take long before the “Tanker Jacket” was represented on all locations worldwide.
After the Second World War, the design of the tanker jacket was often used as the basis for civilian jackets. Original tanker jackets are very rare today. A good original collector’s item fetches high prices on the collectors’ market.
An officer’s version that was privately tailored served as a model for our “1941 Tanker Jacket”. Privately procured parts were sewn according to official standards, but always with small adjustments to make the jackets more practical. Pike Brothers version of the 1941 Tanker Jackets has an extra thick wool lining and an additional inner pocket. To optimize the fit, our 1941 Tanker Jacket has no expansion gusset on the back. All typical details that can be found on privately procured jackets of this time.

The following details characterize our 1941 Tanker Jacket:

– 100% cotton outer fabric 330 g/m, 100% wool lining 440g/m
– Authentic 1940 Talon zipper, left opening
– 2 chest pockets, one inside pocket
– Circular knitted cuffs
– Made in Turkey
