CHAMPION HISTORY
In 1919 two brothers, called Feinbloom, started a sportswear company called “Champion”. They did this because they were disappointed in the inconsistent quality of sportswear. And because she played American Football herself, they started this. In the twenties, champion first teamed up with their local American Football team in Michigan. The athletes were satisfied with the quality and fit of Champion, and soon coaches from all corners of the long asked for the sportswear of the Feinbloom brothers.

In the 1930’s Champion was renamed “Champion Knitting Mills Inc”. The main products at that time were T-shirts, sweatshirts and socks. Many universities print their own logos on blank Champion sweaters and used them as official merchandise. During this time, the US military also started using the sweaters during winter training. They did this because of the warmth and durability of the sweaters.

In 1938, the champion applied for a patent for the now known Reverse Weave technology. The application word was not approved until 15 years later (in connection with World War II), in 1952. With the Reverse Weave technology, Champion literally goes “against the grain”, they do this by not sewing their clothing vertically but transversely. The advantage of this method is that the clothes are shrink-free, durable and made to last. The Reverse Weave is used to this day on the high quality Champion T-shirts, Sweatshirts and Hoodies.

Another Champion invention is the nylon mesh basketball jerseys. To this day, this material is synonymous with basketball. Champion has even more ties to basketball. For example, from 1989 to 1998, the brand was the official and exclusive NBA jersey manufacturer. This basketball period has, according to many, the most iconic NBA period yet.
