Authentic reproduction of the original 1957 US All-Stars ballcap. Hand-sewn from genuine wool baseball cloth.
The Hearst Sandlot Classic was an annual all-star game played at the Polo Grounds featuring top amateur players chosen through tryouts all over the country sponsored by Hearst newspapers. The format was New York against the United States. (Brooklyn had their own rival game at Ebbets Field called “Brooklyn Against The World”). Newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst was the backer of the game, and his stated intention was “to further the spirit of athletic competition among the youth of America”. These two annual “sandlot” contests produced dozens of future professional ballplayers, including Detroit’s Billy Loes, and the New York Mets catcher Jerry Grote.
This cap is made from 75%wool/ 25% nylon and has a leather strap. So fits on most heads.
under visor is done with the recognizable green Silk.
