The Wilkes are Freenote’s updated spin on the traditional cowboy-cut jean. They feature a high rise, a roomy and comfortable thigh, and a subtle taper down to a leg opening wide enough to slide over a pair of boots. The result is a classic tapered silhouette with a Western edge. Double flat-felled seams run down each leg for added durability and long wear, while the selvedge detail along the outseam remains intact.

This version is crafted from nearly 16oz double black selvedge denim sourced from Japan. The fabric has a tight, uniform weave that gives it a clean, all-black appearance. Because of its dense construction, it will fade gradually and evenly over time, becoming noticeably softer as it breaks in. The denim is also sanforized, so it’s been pre-shrunk to minimize additional shrinkage and make sizing more predictable.

As for the finishing touches, Freenote includes all the details they’re known for: custom brass hardware, Japanese herringbone pocket bags, a tonal “antique gold” selvedge ticker, and custom woven and leather labels. The construction sticks to their tried-and-true methods as well, with sturdy flat-felled seams and signature 1/8″ double-needle stitching throughout.

They fit true to size, with very little shrinkage expected if washed cold and hung to dry.
