This denim is where it all began for Nudie Jeans.
The 13.75 oz Kaihara Dry Selvage first stopped them in our tracks back in 2001—and thanks to its remarkable aging qualities, it still does today. It was the very first selvage denim Nudie ever worked with, and it remains one of the core reasons Nudie Jeans exists at all.

When co-founder Maria discovered this fabric, the idea of Nudie Jeans started to take shape. And it’s no mystery why. With its deep indigo warp, unbleached vintage ecru weft, tight weave, and crisp, starchy hand, it’s a fabric that demands attention.

But the real magic lies in the way it ages. Technically speaking, the warp is first dyed with dark sulfur before being dipped in indigo, creating a rich, muted blue with a subtle green cast. Over time, as the denim fades from dark to lighter tones, that greenish hue shifts—gradually revealing a redcast, clear-blue brilliance. This evolving character is what makes the fabric so special, and why it has remained in Nudie’s collection since day one.
